Unsighted Review

Unsighted stars a robot named Alma who wakes up with amnesia. What’s more, her society is on the brink of collapse from a human invasion. It’s a top-down action game with hints of Mega Man X plus The Legend of Zelda. Does Unsighted have what it takes to live up to these two legendary series? Find out in my review. Enjoy

Special Notes: I received a Nintendo Switch review code for Unsighted.

Toem Review

Toem is a delightful adventure game through the lens, literally, of a camera. This is the first big game from the developers, Something We Made. Was their debut a grand one or did these photos need further development? Yeah, that analogy got away from me but find out what I thought in my review. Enjoy!

Special Notes: I received a PS5 review code for Toem.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits Review

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is the first game from Ember Lab. Most may know them from their CG cartoon based on The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. This game has a lot of vibes from the Zelda series and that game in particular along with Pikmin and Okami. Are these inspirations enough to make Kena a compelling game? Find out in my review. Enjoy!

Special Notes: I received a PS5 review code for Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

Astria Ascending Review

Astria Ascending began as a mobile game called Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey back in 2015. A more complete version was set to release on PS4 and PS Vita. Plans for this were canceled and now. Astria Ascending then is a full reworking of the original idea with team members consisting of ex-Final Fantasy developers. It looks and sounds the part like Final Fantasy XII meets Dragon’s Crown. Is that enough to make it a standout RPG from 2021? Find out in my review. Enjoy!

Special Notes: I received a PS5 review code for Astria Ascending.

Quick Review: SkateBird and Catlateral Damage Remeowstered

It’s time for a very cute double review. SkateBird is the new game in town and you’re probably more interested in hearing about that. However, I decided to pair it with a re-release, Catlateral Damage-Remeowstered. Birds and cats? They seem to fit together thematically so I thought why not. So, how were these games on Switch? Find out in my review. Enjoy!

Special Notes: I received review codes for SkateBird and Catlateral Damage: Remeowstered.

Flynn: Son of Crimson Review

Flynn: Son of Crimson is a new title being published by Humble Games. This game in particular has been cooking since September 26, 2017. Presumably, it’s been in development longer than that. The point is, I only mention this because the launch is almost four years from the date of when the Kickstarter campaign launched. Was this long wait worth it for backers or was it a poor investment? Find out in my review. Enjoy!

Special Notes: I received a review code for Flynn: Son of Crimson.

Ultra Age Review

Ultra Age is a mashup of several games and genres. At its core, it can best be described as an action roguelike RPG. Does it stand tall next to its contemporaries or should this game have stayed in the lab and aged a little more? Find out in my review. Enjoy!

Special Notes: I received a PS4 review code for Ultra Age, but I played it on PS5.

Tales of Arise Review

Tales of Arise is the first new mainline game in the series since Tales of Berseria in 2017. Was the wait worthwhile? In other words, did the developers make use of this four-year gap to truly evolve the series, or is still stuck in the past? Find out in my review. Enjoy!

Special Notes: I received a review code for Tales of Arise.

Golf Club: Wasteland Review

Golf Club: Wasteland is a surreal golf game that takes place in the post-apocalypse. Earth is dead, abandoned for the new frontier, Mars. People still go to Earth but seemingly only to play golf. Unlike most golf games out there this is more like a puzzle game crossed with a walking simulator. Does this combo create a fun experience, or like Earth, should this game be abandoned? Find out in my review. Enjoy!

Special Notes: I received a PS4 review code for Golf Club: Wasteland, but I played it on PS5.

Top 5 Obscure Games From August 2021

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again. August was packed with too many games both big and small. I was lucky enough to get treated to a plethora of review codes in August. Due to my writing workload, a lot of them got buried. So, here are four games that came out in August that you probably missed too. They’re not all gems, but they do deserve some exposure. Enjoy this review wrap-up!

Special Notes: I received review codes for Road 96, Demons of Asteborg, Foreclosed, Spelunky, and Spelunky 2.
